Guide 03 · Legacy System

Legacy builds for 1–2 characters

Where to spend Legacy Points if you play one or two characters.

Our one recommendation

Put your first Legacy Points into Well Rested (Adventure tree) on every character.

Whenever you're logged out, your character builds up rested experience. Well Rested makes you earn rested experience faster and raises how much you can store, so you come back to more bonus experience each time you log in.

How the Legacy System works (from Blizzard)

  • You earn Legacy Points by finishing Legacy Challenges, for example leveling a certain class or reaching a skill milestone. [source]
  • Points are shared across your account, but each character spends them separately in its own Legacy Trees. [source]
  • The launch trees are Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness. [source]
  • At launch, each character can spend up to 16 points. You can earn up to 65 points at the start, and the extra ones count toward a cosmetic Legacy Reward Track. [source]
  • To change Legacy talents, visit a class trainer in a major city. [source]

Suggested plans

Your planWhere to spendWhy
One characterAdventure: Well Rested first. Then Professions: Bountiful Harvest if you gather.Well Rested increases rested XP gain and the rested cap. [source] Bountiful Harvest gives you more materials from mining, herbalism or skinning. [source]
Two charactersBoth: Well Rested. Make the second one a different class.Blizzard says players who level alts can earn points from a wider range of challenges, "such as leveling a different class." [source] A second class opens up new challenges for your shared pool.
Later, once you're settledResourcefulness: Reagent EconomyIt can remove reagent costs from class abilities, which makes buffing easier. [source] Blizzard calls it "deeper" in the tree, so expect to spend more points to reach it.
Unverified Not confirmed: how many points each Legacy talent costs, how many ranks it has, and the exact tree layouts. Blizzard has named some talents but hasn't published full trees in the posts we checked. Plan by talent name, not point totals, until they do.
