Addons that work this week

The honest addon answer for WoW: Forever launch week.

Our one recommendation

Play your first week with no addons, using the built-in interface.

Forever's addon rules are new, and many older Classic addons don't have a Forever version yet. Blizzard has built several things into the game that people used to need addons for. Start clean, see what you actually miss, and add things later once their authors have updated them. If you can't wait, start with Questie. It's one of nine addons in the table below that we confirmed have Forever builds.

Built into the game now (from Blizzard)

  • Shaman totems: a tracking display shows your active totems and their remaining time, and you can right-click to remove one. Call of the Elements adds a totem bar that drops a preset set of four at once. [source]
  • Paladin seal twisting: the Twist of Light talent supports seal twisting "without requiring a swing-timer add-on." [source]
  • Looks: transmog can be turned on or off at a transmogrifier, and it's off automatically in Classic Mode. [source] There are HD/SD character models and official gamepad support. [source]

Addon status this week

Checked October 21, 2026, against the WoW: Forever beta client 1.60.1. Blizzard doesn't publish an addon compatibility list, and Forever isn't out yet (beta only). Verified here means we saw it ourselves on the addon's own official download page (CurseForge, GitHub, or Tukui for ElvUI), not in a Blizzard post. Everything marked Unverified comes from third-party lists we couldn't confirm.

AddonStatusWhat we found
QuestieVerified Forever buildHas an official Forever file: version 12.1.0 (v12.1.0+v1.0.6), released October 12. Its release lists a forever game version. [source] [source] Unverified Quests that are new in Forever may be missing from its database.
Deadly Boss ModsVerified Forever buildHas a Forever build: the newest release, 12.1.16 (October 19), lists a forever game version in its release file. The 12.1.15 notes (October 16) said it would "expand scope of secret based trash/boss alert systems to forever across the board." [source] Unverified Alerts for Forever's new bosses may be incomplete.
WeakAurasVerified No Forever buildNo Forever version. The latest release, 5.22.1 (October 10), lists no Forever build on GitHub or CurseForge. [source] [source] Unverified Even with one, features that read combat may be blocked by the Midnight addon rules.
Bartender4Verified Forever buildHas a Forever build: the 4.18.3.1 release (October 2) lists a forever game version in its release file. [source]
Details!Verified Forever buildHas a Forever build: CurseForge lists a WoW Forever file dated October 16 (Details.20261015.15339.172). [source] Unverified Third-party lists say Forever also has a built-in damage meter; we haven't checked that in game.
BigWigsVerified Forever buildHas a Forever build: the v427.6 release (October 14) lists a forever game version in its release file. [source] Unverified LittleWigs and the classic raid modules are reportedly missing. Use BigWigs or Deadly Boss Mods, not both.
AuctionatorVerified Forever buildHas a Forever build: CurseForge lists a WoW Forever file for release 341 (October 13). [source]
Leatrix PlusVerified Forever buildHas a separate Forever file: 1.60.25-forever (October 21), for game version 1.60.1. [source] Unverified Third-party lists say some features are removed in the Forever version.
TomTomVerified Forever buildHas a Forever build: v4.3.12-release (October 6) is listed under WoW Forever on CurseForge. [source]
ElvUIVerified Forever buildEarly Forever support: the official 16.00 changelog (October 13) says it "adds initial support for the upcoming WoW: Forever game version" and that gamepads are not supported yet. [source] It replaces your whole interface, so it's not one we'd start with.
Unverified Addon rules for Forever. Wowhead reported (September 16, 2026) that Blizzard said in the WoW UI Discord that Forever "shares Mainline WoW's UI architecture, including the vast majority of APIs available in 12.1.5", including Midnight's addon restrictions. The post is mirrored on a community wiki [source], but we couldn't check the Discord post directly or find it in an official Blizzard news post or patch notes, so we mark it Unverified. If it's true, addons made only for WoW Classic need a Forever build before they work in Forever.
Before you install anything: look on its download page for a version that says it supports WoW: Forever.

Do I need a paid leveling guide?

Our pick: no. Skip the paid guides and use Questie, which is free.

Why: for a returning player, a guide that routes you around the fastest way isn't what slows you down. Logging out in an inn and getting Legacy going does more for you, and both are free. Questie already marks quest givers and objectives on your map, and it has an official Forever build. [source]

What Blizzard actually says: its UI Add-On Development Policy says "All add-ons must be distributed free of charge" and that developers may not "charge for services related to the add-on." [source]

Unverified No Blizzard ruling on paid guide content. Some guide addons are free to install but sell the guide content for later levels. We haven't found any Blizzard post saying whether that's allowed in WoW: Forever. Players on the forums say Blizzard has okayed it, but none of them link a source.

The free things that help more: rested XP from logging out in an inn, and Well Rested once Legacy unlocks. [source]
